Othello in the West End

Othello and painting with light

From previews to press night, it’s been amazing to see the design and performances from this incredible cast take shape and watching the audience responce every night – from laughter to pin-drop silent edge-of-the-seat focus, even gasps.

This is the second time I have had the thrilling chance to explore this work with its themes of trust, ambition and the fragility of the human heart when the mind is overtaken by false narratives.

“What you know you know” – not all projection looks like video!

I worked with my team at PixelLux to combine a variety of techniques and technologies in creating the projection design for this explosive play.

This chiefly included timelapse watercolours painted by myself, pre-filmed footage, Notch VFX. We alos employed an innovative use of tracked projection surfaces to seamlessly integrate with the scenography and lighting of the space. These also provided surfaces for key narrative beats that take us right inside Othello’s memory.

(with thanks to Jon Nicholls and PJ Harvey for the sound featured in the show that accompanies the reel)

The show is now available to watch in Cinemas.
